Size Matters

Hi. It’s Monte from the Preserver App. And today, I want to just talk about video length because you can adjust those when you capture them with the Preserver App.

But I want your videos to be used and useful, and so let’s just do a quick look at some analysis here on user behaviour within the last year.

So here we see the average retention rate is 66% of viewers will finish a video that’s under a minute long. 56% of viewers will finish a video that’s 1 to 2 minutes long. I noticed that, (Vidyard is the tool I’m using to record myself down here and make these introductory videos), and they have an analysis here where it says, 53% of viewers will watch your video all the way to the end regardless of how long. 60% of videos are under 2 minutes.

So, I mean, it depends on what you’re trying to do, whether it’s education and teaching. Here’s some Chat GPT stuff. Not Chat. This is Google’s, Web Chat, talking about: it’s not all just about length. It falls between 3 to 6 minutes. They’ll watch 50% of videos up to 5 minutes long. YouTube aims for a duration of 6 to 8 minutes for ideal maintained engagement, but, hey, Joe Rogan runs interviews that go for 2 hours! Average duration depends on the context. So, all these things play into it.

And now I’m going to cut across to the actual Preserver app and show you how you can control your video length.

But today, I’m just talking about max video length because we were talking about, you know, if you want to record a video with no limit at a rock concert, you can. You can record at any lengths you want. I normally set mine at 3 minutes because that’s what I think is what people will watch comfortably, and it just stays there. You can change that at any time, so it doesn’t matter. But it’s a powerful feature for you to control your video length when you film the video and when you get done with it. If you don’t like it, you can clear it and cancel it.

The other thing to remember too, about video length, is it is being recorded on your phone. It is taking up a fair amount of space at 1080p, pixels. And it can take you a lot of time to upload, in fact, we recommend most people only upload from their phones to any cloud service if they have Wi Fi access and not use it over their cellular network, which is a slow and expensive.
