Preserver's job is capture: instant, timestamped, GPS-tagged, and private by default. It doesn't transcribe, summarise, or send anything to a server — there isn't one. But once you've captured a voice note or video, you may still want a written transcript or a quick summary. For that, you don't need a new app. Your phone almost certainly already has one built in.
Your phone already has AI for this
On iPhone 15 Pro or later, Apple Intelligence powers transcription and summarisation directly inside the Notes app. On Android, Gemini and the Pixel Recorder app offer the same thing. Both work on recordings from any source — including the ones you've captured in Preserver.
- Open the Activity in Preserver and use the share sheet to export the voice or video capture
- Share it to Notes (iPhone) or Gemini / Recorder (Android)
- Let the built-in AI generate a transcript, and a summary if you want one
- Save or copy the result wherever you need it — a report, an email, a case file
What works offline and what doesn't
Recording and exporting in Preserver always work offline — that hasn't changed. Once you hand the file to your phone's AI, it depends on the tool: Apple Intelligence transcription and Notes summaries run entirely on-device, so no connection is needed. Pixel Recorder transcription is also on-device. Gemini, on the other hand, generally needs an internet connection to process the file.
If you're working somewhere without signal, transcribe later once you're back in range — the original capture and its metadata aren't going anywhere.
Keep the original as your record
A transcript or summary is a convenience layer, not a replacement for the original. Preserver's export bundle carries the embedded timestamp and GPS metadata that makes a capture credible; a transcript generated afterward doesn't inherit that automatically. Keep the original recording — in Preserver, or in your exported bundle — as your source of record, and treat the AI-generated text as a readable companion to it.
The transcript is for convenience. The timestamped, GPS-tagged original is for proof.
Language support depends on your phone's speech recognition settings, not on Preserver — check iPhone under Settings → General → Language & Region, or your Android device's voice input settings. And there's nothing extra to pay for: Apple Intelligence and Gemini's core features come with your phone, and Preserver stays a one-time $49 USD purchase either way.
